Update on Gifted and Talented Education 2007-2008
by Linda Boteach, Gifted and Talented Chair
Due to the hard work and persistent advocating of the PTA Council Gifted and Talented Committee, the position statement Add-on Endorsement for Gifted and Talented Education was adopted by the Maryland PTA Board of Directors at its 2007 Summer Board Meeting. (See entire position statement at http://bcptacouncil.org/gifted.htm.)
Grassroots advocacy for gifted and talented students is important. Its goal is to educate others on the psycho-social and educational needs of this population which is often underserved, especially in minority and low income families. The BCPS Advisory Committee for Gifted and Talented Education and PTA Council plan to partner by encouraging each school to identify a parent liaison who will work with the school administration and the PTA to educate parents and help advocate for this population.
Those interested in learning more about Gifted and Talented issues should attend the following meeting sponsored by the Citizen Advisory Committee for Gifted and Talented Education.
