Dr. Hairston

At this time of year, it seems like every day brings another honor for our students, teachers, staff, schools, and school system. These honors demonstrate that excellence is widespread throughout Baltimore County Public Schools, and they illuminate our progress in fulfilling the vision of our Blueprint for Progress.

As I conclude my ninth year as Superintendent of Baltimore County Public Schools, I want to thank the parents and community members who have been our partners in helping this school system achieve what all school systems aspire to – sustained progress in raising student achievement throughout the school system and for all children.

We are fortunate to have such active and talented parents here in Baltimore County. The time and expertise that parents invest in our schools is priceless. We appreciate these gifts, just as we appreciate your candor and your praise.

I often say that being a superintendent is much more than a job to me; it is a significant responsibility. It is also my great privilege to serve the students in our classrooms and to contribute to this community.

As I begin year 10 on July 1, I look forward with excitement to reaching a personal milestone but with even more excitement about what our stability will enable us to achieve. I look forward to working with you, as we continue to prepare all students for success in college, careers, and life.

I wish everyone an enjoyable and restful summer break, and I encourage families to use these summer months to help students make the connection between classroom learning and everyday life and between their studies and the endless possibilities for their futures. Having your children visit you or other friends and family members at work, taking students to tour or to enjoy events on college campuses, and having your children use their skills and knowledge to help plan a vacation or a household project are just a few of the ways we can work together to make the importance of education real and relevant in the lives of Baltimore County Public Schools students.

I look forward to seeing and hearing from many of you over the summer and reconnecting to all of you when school reopens on August 31.
