 SEPTEMBER

  • Conduct general membership meeting/adopt 2021-22 PTA/PTSA budget
  • Register for the PTA Council Fall Reception & Workshops
  • Pay Free State PTA and National PTA membership dues monthly
  • Distribute cards to your members
  • Pay PTA Council dues (due 10/1)
  • Attend PTA Council Fall Reception & Workshops

OCTOBER

  • Send copy of annual financial review to Free State PTA (due 10/30)
  • Pay Free PTA and National PTA membership dues monthly; first payment due 10/1
  • Distribute cards to your members
  • Attend pre-operating budget hearings
  • Begin work on Reflections Program

NOVEMBER

  • Federal Income Tax Return (Form 990EZ or Form 990N) due on or before 11/15
  • Pay Free State PTA and National PTA membership dues monthly
  • Distribute cards to your members
  • Continue work on Reflections Program
  • Attend Free State PTA Online Financial Training Sessions
  • Celebrate American Education Week

DECEMBER 

  • Annual Update of Registration Form for MD Charitable Organizations due on or before 12/30 (include Certification Form, Form 990 or COF 85, list of board members, and fee if required; www.sos.state.md.us.charity)
  • Pay Free State PTA and National PTA membership dues monthly
  • Distribute cards to your members
  • Continue work on Reflections Program; submissions due to PTA Council in January for judging

JANUARY

  • Pay Free State PTA and National PTA membership dues monthly
  • Attend the BCPS operating budget hearing
  • Submit Reflections submissions to PTA Council for judging
  • Review Council Awards packet
  • Review bylaws to determine date and process for selection of local PTA Nominating Committee
  • Look for MD Personal Property Tax Return in the mail
  • Attend PTA Council General Meeting
  • MSDE Maryland Parent Involvement Matters Award nomination due

FEBRUARY

  • Pay Free State PTA and National PTA membership dues
  • Review Council Awards packet
  • Federal 990 form due if extension was filed in November

MARCH

  • Attend Reflections Award Reception
  • Attend PTA Council General Meeting and Program
  • PTA Council Award nominations due
  • Continue to pay Free State PTA and National PTA membership dues
  • Share PTA legislative initiatives with members
  • Consider sending delegates to the National PTA Convention

APRIL

  • Publish local PTA nominating committee’s slate of officers; check your bylaws for specifics
  • Personal Property Tax Returns due by 4/15; all PTAs/PTSAs must file to maintain their incorporation status
  • Attend PTA Council General Meeting and Awards Program
  • Elect officers for next school year; see bylaws for correct election month
  • Consider sending delegates to Free State PTA Convention

MAY

  • Continue to pay Free State PTA and National PTA membership dues
  • Elect PTA/PTSA officers for next school year; see bylaws for correct election month
  • Consider sending delegates to the National PTA Convention

JUNE

  • PTA Council Leadership Training, Sessions for presidents, secretaries, treasurers, and committee chairs
  • Consider sending delegates to Free State PTA Convention
  • End of PTA/PTSA fiscal year, close books
  • Insurance coverage ends June 30

JULY/AUGUST

  • Prepare final report for previous fiscal year
  • Plan for financial review
  • Choose PTA/PTSA committee chairs, fill remaining board positions
  • Prepare PTA/PTSA budget
  • Treasurer transition; complete signature cards at PTA/PTSA’s bank
  • Send financial review to Free State PTA.  Refer to MD PTA “Cash Encounters” for financial review report format and sample report.
