  • Information and personnel resource, assisting local PTAs upon request
  • Training and professional development, including Fall Workshop with exhibits that feature child and parent advocacy organizations and educational sessions on current topics of interest to PTA leaders and members
  • By-laws review
  • Audit support; units conduct their own audit (financial review) and send report to Free State PTA
  • National PTA Reflections Program support
  • Help with PTA policies, procedures, and practices
  • Annual General Membership meetings
    • four meetings each year with focus on education, information-sharing, and networking
    • each meeting consists of a business portion and a program
    • four delegates from each local PTA have voting privileges, although PTAs are encouraged to send additional representatives
    • delegates vote on issues and in elections

Legislation, Advocacy, and Community Interactions

  • Council members represent Council on various advisory boards, commissions, interagency committees, and task forces
  • Supports local PTAs when BCPS develops its operating and capital budgets for the next school year, identifying needs of individual schools and of the school system
  • Monthly report to Board of Education
  • Liaison to Free State PTA
  • State and national convention delegations
  • Train local units on effective advocacy
